The Rotary Clubs of Lethbridge are proud to present, for its 12th annual event, the 2013 ATB Financial Lethbridge Rotary Dragon Boat Festival! Showcasing local musicians, vendors – and of course, the races, this remains one of the most exciting summer events in Southern Alberta. This year will welcome 63 teams from across Alberta, BC, and Montana, and over 1,600 participants.
The Festival promises three action-packed days that incorporate culture, competition, and community at Lethbridge Henderson Lake from July 5–7.
The festivities begin on Friday, July 5 at 4:00 PM with live entertainment including The Firm Handshake, Desert Wind Bellydancers, and three-time CCMA Award winner Shane Chisholm. The local Chinese community will be performing the traditional opening ceremony to awaken the spirit of the dragon and help the boats move swiftly through the water.
On Saturday, July 6th, races begin proper. As well, cancer survivors will gather at one of the Festival’s most significant events, the Rose Ceremony, at noon to commemorate those lost to the disease.
Races will continue until 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 7th, and closing ceremonies will commence at 4:00 PM.
Whether you’re racing, spectating, enjoying the beer gardens, watching the stage shows, checking out the food and crafts vendors, volunteering, or bringing your kids to the Children’s Festival, Dragon Boat will be a fun-filled weekend for everyone of all ages. Come join us to make this the best festival yet!
